ci: sign release checksums with the imported GPG key (#1382)
The release job has imported the Teabot GPG key since https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/116, but `.goreleaser.yaml` never had a `signs:` block, so releases were never signed. Add it so `checksums.txt` gets a detached `checksums.txt.sig`, the same way https://gitea.com/gitea/cli signs its releases. fix: align process handling and fix Windows crashes (#1376)
The intermittent Windows test crashes came from step errors formatting a nil `rc.Run`. `fmt` recovers the nil dereference, but on CPUs with AMX the recovered fault overflows into the heap (https://github.com/golang/go/issues/81238). The errors now name the job, and the Windows test VM hides AMX and runs on UTC, so cached boots no longer jump back 8 hours mid-test. Windows commands now start suspended and resume once they are in their job objects, so no child escapes them. That drops the process scan reading other processes' memory and the last `unsafe` code, which `depguard` now denies. Step processes outlive a crashed runner, and commands are no longer looked up in the runner's working directory, both as with GitHub's runner. Like GitHub's runner, host jobs on Linux and macOS now end the processes carrying the job's `RUNNER_TRACKING_ID`, and image pulls and Dockerfile action builds are retried. enhance: test on Windows and fix what it found (#1348)
Adds a weekly and on-demand workflow that runs the cross-compiled tests on Windows Server 2025 Core in a [dockur/windows](https://github.com/dockur/windows) QEMU VM, and fixes the Windows bugs it found in host and UNC paths, env handling, shell quoting, post-task scripts, health checks, checkout, action symlinks, step summaries, Git client certificates and docker mode from a Windows host. Host-mode steps now emit UTF-8, `bash` falls back to Git's bash instead of the WSL launcher, the runner can run as a native Windows service, steps can keep background helpers with `RUNNER_TRACKING_ID`, and Windows arm64 binaries are released. fix: keep dry runs off the docker daemon and speed up the tests (#1349)
Without a docker daemon six `act/runner` tests failed instead of passing. A dry run still created and removed job networks, the job teardown dropped the dry-run flag along with every other context value, and the container mocks asked the daemon for the runner arch. This also speeds up the tests and CI without dropping assertions. Most of the time went to git and docker round trips, which are now pinned, batched or coalesced, and the dind and e2e steps cache or overlap more of their setup. On CI, `act/runner` went from 77s to 55s and `test-dind` from 108s to 55s. Locally, `act/runner` without docker went from 53s to 7s. Split out of https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1348, which adds Windows CI on top. The go cache changes moved to https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1350. ci: implement gitea's cache-seeder (#1350)
Like Gitea's CI, only a `cache-seeder` workflow on main saves the go caches, all other jobs only restore them. Caches are scoped per repository, so until now any pull request, forks included, could write a cache that other runs restore. The seeder compiles the tests without running them, so no test result is ever cached. refactor: remove dead code and consolidate tests (#1335)
Removes dead code and redundant logic and consolidates tests, so there is less to read and maintain. No behavior change. 1. **act/runner**: inline single-use wrappers, compile regexes once instead of per call, embed the trampoline as a string, drop the unused legacy result of `parseActionCommand` 2. **act/container**: `sanitizeConfig` and `mergeContainerConfigs` stop returning the configs they already mutate in place, drop never-set option fields and the unused `user` parameter of `ExecWithCmdLine` 3. **act/common and cache server**: drop the unused `Trace`/`Tracef` loggers and the short SHA of `FindGitRevision`, `RegisterJob` releases through `RevokeJob` 4. **daemon, poller and reporter**: one shutdown wait for both poll modes, drop an unreachable fetch timeout branch, guard the reporter's last report time with its existing lock instead of an atomic 5. **build**: drop unused Makefile and release workflow variables, collapse the goreleaser ignore list to the same build targets 6. **tests**: fold near-duplicate tests into tables with shared setup Throughout, hand-rolled logic gives way to `cmp.Or`, `strings.Cut`, `slices` and `min`/`max`. fix: docker proxy probe for podman and containerized runners (#1231)
Podman creates a missing bind source instead of rejecting it, so the Docker proxy probe passed even when the daemon could not see the runner's files. Jobs of Podman runners in a container got an empty directory at `/var/run/docker.sock` (https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/1193#issuecomment-1700501). The probe now binds the directory and stats its marker through the created container. A runner in a container stats the marker through its own container, so it no longer creates probe containers, which cost up to 2s per job. `make test-dind TARGET=podman` runs the probe against Podman in CI. test: add end-to-end Gitea compatibility suite (#1180)
Adds a real-Gitea compatibility suite against stable and nightly to catch runner and API drift before release. The suite shares one Gitea and regular runner, using repository runners only for cache v1/v2 and ephemeral behavior. It covers registration, payload and log encoding, secrets, variables, services, artifacts, outputs, matrices, cache, dispatch, live logs, cancellation, and ephemeral teardown. CI runs both images in parallel. test: speed up (#1121)
Full suite 178s → 96s, and a run's log 12MB → 2KB. `act/runner` was 177s of the 178s, serialised behind one docker daemon. - Its fixtures now run in parallel, bounded by a slot count instead of `go test -parallel`, with a per-test container name prefix and a pinned `MaxParallel`. - Fixtures asserting a job failure leaked their container and network (`AutoRemove` was at the act-CLI default), filling the daemon's address pool over time. - Replaced sleeps used as synchronisation in the parallel-executor and cache-handler tests. - Dropped duplicate coverage: two files re-testing `NewParallelExecutor`, a test asserting on its own semaphore, and `TestDockerActionForcePullForceRebuild`, whose config `runTest` discarded. - `fmt-check`/`security-check` move from `make test` to a `checks` target; `security-check` no longer installs `xgo` and `gxz`. - Test flags follow gitea: `GOTEST_FLAGS ?= -race -timeout 20m -parallel 8`, with `-cover`/`-coverprofile` left in the target. Dropped `-v`, since a failing package still prints its full output without it. Coverage unchanged at 73.4%. ci: mirror release artifacts to Cloudflare R2 (#1114)
Mirrors every release artifact into Cloudflare R2 alongside the existing AWS S3 upload, so both buckets carry the same objects during a parallel period. S3 is untouched and stays authoritative for now; once R2 is confirmed complete it can be dropped by deleting the `blobs:` block and pointing this at R2 alone. ### Why `publishers:` and not a second `blobs:` entry goreleaser's blob pipe authenticates from the global `AWS_*` environment and has no per-entry credential fields, so two different credential sets (AWS S3 and Cloudflare R2) cannot coexist in `blobs:`. Custom publishers do support per-entry `env:`, which is the supported way to isolate the two. ### Why `curl --aws-sigv4` and not `aws`/`rclone` The CI image `docker.gitea.com/runner-images:ubuntu-latest` ships none of `aws`, `rclone`, `s3cmd` or `mc`, but does ship curl 8.5 with `--aws-sigv4`. This keeps the change zero-install. Credentials are fed to curl through a config file on stdin rather than argv, so they never appear in the process list. ### Behaviour - Object layout is identical to S3 (`gitea-runner/<version>/<artifact>`), so migrating consumers later means changing only the host, not the path. - Nightly gets R2 too, matching the existing nightly-to-S3 behaviour. - Missing R2 configuration fails the build. Because custom publishers run as the very last step of the publish pipeline, a preflight `--check-config` step runs right after checkout so the failure happens before anything is built or published rather than after the release already exists. - Verified against a local MinIO instance (site region `auto`, matching R2): successful upload byte-compared after download, plus the missing-variable, wrong-credentials, missing-file and bad-argument paths. ### Required repository secrets These must be configured before the next release run, otherwise the new preflight step will fail the workflow: - `R2_ENDPOINT` (full base URL, e.g. `https://<account>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com`) - `R2_BUCKET` - `R2_ACCESS_KEY_ID` - `R2_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY` ### Known, deliberate wart The publisher runs 109 times for 73 distinct object keys: goreleaser's release pipe already registers `release.extra_files` as `UploadableFile` artifacts, and `internal/exec` appends the publisher's own `extra_files` on top with no de-duplication. It cannot be globbed away because `gobwas/glob` has no substring-exclusion matcher, so `./**.sha256` cannot be narrowed to exclude `*.xz.sha256`. It is harmless since PUT is idempotent, and the redundant `./**.xz` glob is kept on purpose so the publisher declares its own complete file set instead of implicitly depending on the `release:` block's globs. fix: matrix-job data races + outputs, leaner offline test suite (#994)
Running the full suite under `-race` (dropping `-short`) exposed pre-existing data races in parallel matrix-job execution, fixed by not sharing mutable state across combinations: - `containerDaemonSocket()`/`validVolumes()` derive per-job values instead of mutating shared `Config` - `getWorkflowSecrets` builds a fresh map, `rc.steps()` clones each step, and go-git workdir access is serialized - every write to a shared `Job`'s result/outputs runs under a per-`Job` lock, each combo interpolating outputs from a pristine snapshot (last wins, as on GitHub) ### Test suite - capability gates (docker / network / host-tools / Linux) replace the `-short` skips, and the suite runs offline via local fixtures (the artifact flow uses an in-process loopback server, only the docker-action force-pull needs the network) - drops redundant tests, adds a regression test for https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/981 and a docker-in-docker harness (`make test-dind`) --- This PR was written with the help of Claude Opus 4.7 Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/994 Reviewed-by: Nicolas <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: silverwind <[email protected]> Co-committed-by: silverwind <[email protected]> |

Add OCI source and version labels to images (#975)
Adds `org.opencontainers.image.source` and `org.opencontainers.image.version` labels to all three image variants (`basic`, `dind`, `dind-rootless`). - `source` lets tools like renovate retrieve release notes from the source repo. - `version` exposes the build version on the image itself. Rename act_runner to runner (#850)
## Consumer-facing breaking changes
- **Go module path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner`. Anything importing `act/...` or `internal/...` packages (notably Gitea itself) must update imports.
- **Binary name**: `act_runner` → `gitea-runner`. Wrapper scripts, systemd units, init scripts, and documentation referencing the binary by `act_runner` will break.
- **Docker image**: `gitea/act_runner` → `gitea/runner` (incl. `*-dind-rootless` variants). Users pulling `gitea/act_runner:nightly` etc. will get stale images. Note: the image name is `gitea/runner`, not `gitea/gitea-runner`.
- **Release artifact paths**: S3 directory `act_runner/{{.Version}}` → `gitea-runner/{{.Version}}`, and artifact filenames change with the new project name. Existing download URLs break.
- **Metrics namespace**: changed from `act_runner` to `gitea_runner` (e.g. `act_runner_jobs_total` → `gitea_runner_jobs_total`); existing monitors/dashboards must be updated.
- **ldflags version path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner/internal/pkg/ver.version` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner/internal/pkg/ver.version`. Affects anyone building with custom ldflags.
- **Kubernetes example resource names**: `act-runner` / `act-runner-vol` → `runner` / `runner-vol`. Users who copied the manifests verbatim will see resource churn on apply.
- **s6 service name**: `scripts/s6/act_runner/` → `scripts/s6/gitea-runner/` (image-internal; only matters for downstream image overrides).
Unchanged: YAML config field names, env vars (`GITEA_*`), CLI flags/subcommands, registration file format.

Semver tags for Docker images (#720)
The main Gitea docker image is already distributed with proper semver tags, such that users can pin to e.g. the minor version and still pull in patch releases. This is something that has been lacking on the act runner images. This PR expands the docker image tag versioning strategy such that when `v0.2.13` is released the following image tags are produced: Basic: - `0` - `0.2` - `0.2.13` - `latest` DinD: - `0-dind` - `0.2-dind` - `0.2.13-dind` - `latest-dind` DinD-Rootless: - `0-dind-rootless` - `0.2-dind-rootless` - `0.2.13-dind-rootless` - `latest-dind-rootless` To verify the `docker/metadata-action` produces the expected results in a Gitea workflow environment I've executed a release workflow.
