fix: align runner behaviours (#1338)
Contains a number of small bug fixes where jobs behaved differently from GitHub or failed silently.
1. Hooks fail on a refused `::set-env::` or `::add-path::` and no longer inherit the last step's identity
1. Docker build, exec and wait errors are returned instead of swallowed, token-only registry credentials work, logs of `--tty` services decode
1. Env files split lines like GitHub on each OS, so a carriage return is kept on Linux and CRLF ends a line on Windows, empty heredoc names or delimiters are rejected
1. Post steps run after their pre step even when main was skipped, composites see undeclared inputs, `runs.args` wins without `with.args` being parsed
1. Docker actions skip evaluating defaults of inputs given in `with` and read `entryPoint` and `args` in any case, a lowercase `dockerfile` is found, undeclared inputs get GitHub's warning
1. A user-set `CI` is kept, `GITHUB_REPOSITORY_ID` and the other missing `GITHUB_*` variables are exported
1. `timeout-minutes` can read the step's own `env`, a step-level `ACTIONS_ALLOW_UNSECURE_COMMANDS: false` beats a job-level `true` while the runner's own opt-in still wins, `pwsh` quotes the script path
1. A step `env:` given as one expression such as `${{ fromJSON(matrix.env) }}` is applied, `hashFiles` fails with GitHub's messages on script errors and after 120 seconds, a job image without node still gets an empty hash
1. A step whose command files cannot be reset fails instead of importing stale ones, a timeout between steps fails the job instead of reporting success
1. One named volume can be mounted at several paths, host-mode PTY steps keep their last output when they fail, host scratch directories are removed when job setup fails
1. Cancelling a step right after it starts kills its whole process tree
1. Cache prefix restores pick the newest entry created within the same second, also on S3, cache commits with a wrong size are rejected
1. Artifact chunks are written at their offset, download URLs are escaped, listing a run without artifacts no longer crashes
1. Poll backoff reaches `fetch_interval_max`, proxy passwords are masked in more forms, secrets are also masked in step names and in their quoted form in the runner log, a failed final report is logged
1. On Windows hosts a differently cased unsecure-commands opt-in or proxy variable counts, and an early cancel no longer leaks a job object handle
1. Interactive `register` prompts for a missing token and stops on SIGTERM, `exec --list --detect-event` no longer panics without events, `config set` works on `cache.s3` keys

refactor: remove dead code and consolidate tests (#1335)
Removes dead code and redundant logic and consolidates tests, so there is less to read and maintain. No behavior change. 1. **act/runner**: inline single-use wrappers, compile regexes once instead of per call, embed the trampoline as a string, drop the unused legacy result of `parseActionCommand` 2. **act/container**: `sanitizeConfig` and `mergeContainerConfigs` stop returning the configs they already mutate in place, drop never-set option fields and the unused `user` parameter of `ExecWithCmdLine` 3. **act/common and cache server**: drop the unused `Trace`/`Tracef` loggers and the short SHA of `FindGitRevision`, `RegisterJob` releases through `RevokeJob` 4. **daemon, poller and reporter**: one shutdown wait for both poll modes, drop an unreachable fetch timeout branch, guard the reporter's last report time with its existing lock instead of an atomic 5. **build**: drop unused Makefile and release workflow variables, collapse the goreleaser ignore list to the same build targets 6. **tests**: fold near-duplicate tests into tables with shared setup Throughout, hand-rolled logic gives way to `cmp.Or`, `strings.Cut`, `slices` and `min`/`max`. refactor: drop logrus and other direct dependencies (#1319)
After https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1304, logrus stayed only to forward logs from docker/cli and moby/go-archive. The runner used a small part of those: volume parsing, the build context tar, the `ssh://` connection and registry credentials. Own code that matches them replaces them, so logrus leaves the module graph. docker/cli stays for its logrus-free `opts` and `connhelper/ssh` packages. Other dependencies that the standard library or existing ones cover go too: mergo, httprouter (replaced by `http.ServeMux`), retry-go, go-isatty, go-selinux, container-device-interface, gotest.tools and go-cmp (replaced by testify). The binary shrinks by 5%. Behaviour differences: 1. An unreadable file in a build context is skipped with a warning, where go-archive left a truncated tar. 2. Build contexts no longer carry `security.capability` xattrs. 3. The cache and artifact servers answer HEAD on GET routes, and no longer redirect trailing slashes or answer OPTIONS. *Written by Claude.* --------- Co-authored-by: bircni <> Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1319 Reviewed-by: bircni <> Reviewed-by: Lunny Xiao <> Co-authored-by: silverwind <> |

chore: revert 4c2ab943a8 (#1148)
Revert #1136 and use actionslib instead. revert chore: bump the module path to `/v3`, take the version from the VCS stamp (#1136) gitea can not consume the runner's api by version while it's version mismatches the module version: ``` go: gitea.com/gitea/: invalid version: module contains a go.mod file, so module path must match major version ("gitea.com/gitea/runner/v3") ``` Fix that by bumping the module version now. The existing `v3.0.0` and `v3.0.1` tags stay unusable, so a new tag is needed after this lands. Also drop the version `-X` linker flags, which would otherwise have to repeat the new path in both `Makefile` and `.goreleaser.yaml`, where a stale path makes injection silently no-op. Go has recorded the module version in the build info since 1.24, so `Version()` reads it from there, keeping the variable as an override for builds without a VCS stamp. That part started as https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1137 but belongs here: the stamp resolves against the tags that are legal for the module path, so without the `/v3` bump it would report `v1.0.9-0.<ts>-<sha>`. Since `release-nightly.yml` triggers on every push to `main`, splitting them would publish a nightly with a `v1` version. --------- Co-authored-by: bircni <> Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1136 Reviewed-by: techknowlogick <> Reviewed-by: bircni <> Co-authored-by: silverwind <> Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1148 Reviewed-by: Zettat123 <> |

feat: propagate proxy variables to jobs, services and builds (#1112)
Set `http_proxy`, `https_proxy` and `no_proxy` in the runner's environment and everything the runner controls uses them. Go already read them for the runner's own requests. This adds jobs, in lower and upper case, service containers, and Dockerfile action builds. Some hosts are added to `no_proxy` for jobs so they stay direct: the cache server, loopback, the job's service containers, and a `tcp://` Docker daemon. Without the last one the Docker client sends its API calls to the proxy and docker-in-docker breaks. Gitea is not added. Images are pulled by the Docker daemon, which has its own proxy setting. In the `dind` images it reads these same variables. The runner warns at startup if it has a proxy and the daemon does not. Fixes https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/1118, originally reported as https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/708. --------- Co-authored-by: silverwind <> Co-authored-by: silverwind <> Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/1112 Reviewed-by: silverwind <> Co-authored-by: bircni <> |

fix(deps): bump docker deps, switch to moby/moby (#943)
Fixes: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/issues/859 Migration approach mirrors [actions-oss/act-cli#154](https://github.com/actions-oss/act-cli/pull/154). ### Dependency changes - `github.com/docker/docker` v25.0.15 → **removed** (v29 doesn't exist as docker/docker; the project moved to moby/moby) - `github.com/docker/cli` v25.0.7 → v29.4.3 - `github.com/docker/go-connections` v0.6.0 → v0.7.0 - `github.com/docker/docker-credential-helpers` v0.9.5 → v0.9.6 - `github.com/moby/go-archive` added at v0.2.0 - `github.com/moby/moby/api` added at v1.54.2 - `github.com/moby/moby/client` added at v0.4.1 - `github.com/moby/buildkit` removed (only used `dockerignore.ReadAll`, swapped for `moby/patternmatcher/ignorefile.ReadAll` directly) - `github.com/containerd/errdefs` v0.3.0 → v1.0.0 ### Migration - v28: type aliases moved to their subpackages (`types.{Container,Image,Network,Exec}*` → `container/image/network/...`); deprecated APIs replaced (`ImageInspectWithRaw`, `client.IsErrNotFound`, `archive.CanonicalTarNameForPath`, `opts.ValidateMACAddress`, `ListOpts.GetAll`) - v29: structural client redesign — every `cli.X(ctx, ...)` call switched to options-everywhere/Result-typed signatures, `ContainerExec*` → `Exec*`, `ContainerWait` returns a struct with `Result`/`Error` channels, `Tty`→`TTY`, `Copy*Container` takes options struct, `client.NewClientWithOpts` → `client.New`. `pkg/stdcopy` moved to `moby/moby/api/pkg/stdcopy`. The vendored copy of `cli/command/container/opts.go` was refreshed from cli v29 (now uses `netip.Addr` for IPs, port-set conversion helpers). A small local `parsePlatform` helper centralises the `os/arch[/variant]` parsing previously inlined into multiple call sites. ### Behaviour preservation The migration introduced several behavioural shifts vs the v25 client; all were caught in review and reverted/fixed in follow-up commits: - `GetDockerClient`: cli v29's `Ping(NegotiateAPIVersion: true)` returns errors that the old `NegotiateAPIVersion` silently swallowed. Restored best-effort behaviour (warn-log + continue) so daemons with blocked `_ping` or API < 1.40 keep working. The SSH-helper `client.New` call no longer inherits `client.FromEnv`, matching the old `NewClientWithOpts(WithHost, WithDialContext)` so `DOCKER_API_VERSION`/`DOCKER_TLS_VERIFY` don't leak into the SSH-tunneled client - `parsePlatform`: malformed input now returns an explicit error instead of silently dropping to "no platform constraint" and pulling the host-default architecture. Single-segment (`"linux"`), 4+-segment (`"linux/arm/v7/extra"`), and trailing-slash (`"linux/arm/"`) inputs are all rejected - `LoadDockerAuthConfig`/`LoadDockerAuthConfigs`: `config.LoadDefaultConfigFile(nil)` panics on a malformed config file (it does `fmt.Fprintln` on the nil `io.Writer`). Switched to `config.Load(config.Dir())` so load errors reach the logger and the panic path is gone. Restored the old behaviour of returning `config.Load` and `GetAuthConfig` errors to the caller (the v29 refactor had silently downgraded them to warn-only). A `reference.ParseNormalizedNamed` failure on the image string falls through to the `docker.io` default rather than aborting, since the old string-based hostname extraction was infallible Test assertions also updated for two upstream error-message string shifts (`go-connections` port-range parser; `cli/opts` envfile BOM check). Added unit-test coverage for the new `parsePlatform` helper, locking in the intentional limits (single-segment, 4+-segment, and trailing-slash platforms rejected). --- This PR was written with the help of Claude Opus 4.7 Reviewed-on: https://gitea.com/gitea/runner/pulls/943 Reviewed-by: Lunny Xiao <> Co-authored-by: silverwind <> Co-committed-by: silverwind <> |

feat: remove emojis from runner logging, add Starting job container group (#940)
Aligns runner log output more closely with `actions/runner`: - Strip the whale, rocket, cloud, construction, chequered-flag, and exclamation-mark glyphs from log lines and drop the now-unused `logPrefix` constant. - Reword `no outputs used step '%s'` → `No outputs registered for step '%s'` (the original was ungrammatical and inaccurate — it fires when `set-output` references an unknown step ID). - Wrap the docker pull/network/create/start phase of job container startup in a `::group::Starting job container` / `::endgroup::` collapsible section, mirroring `actions/runner`. Since act drives Docker through the SDK rather than the CLI, we can't echo `##[command]/usr/bin/docker create ...` lines verbatim — instead the helper emits a summary inside the group: ``` ::group::Starting job container image: <image> name: <container-name> network: <network-name> ::endgroup:: ``` - Extracted the emit into a `printStartJobContainerGroup` helper (parallel to `printRunActionHeader` in `step_run.go`) and added a golden-style test `TestPrintStartJobContainerGroupGolden`. - Drive-by: replace two remaining literal `"raw_output"` strings in `run_context.go` with the existing `rawOutputField` constant. Rename act_runner to runner (#850)
## Consumer-facing breaking changes
- **Go module path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner`. Anything importing `act/...` or `internal/...` packages (notably Gitea itself) must update imports.
- **Binary name**: `act_runner` → `gitea-runner`. Wrapper scripts, systemd units, init scripts, and documentation referencing the binary by `act_runner` will break.
- **Docker image**: `gitea/act_runner` → `gitea/runner` (incl. `*-dind-rootless` variants). Users pulling `gitea/act_runner:nightly` etc. will get stale images. Note: the image name is `gitea/runner`, not `gitea/gitea-runner`.
- **Release artifact paths**: S3 directory `act_runner/{{.Version}}` → `gitea-runner/{{.Version}}`, and artifact filenames change with the new project name. Existing download URLs break.
- **Metrics namespace**: changed from `act_runner` to `gitea_runner` (e.g. `act_runner_jobs_total` → `gitea_runner_jobs_total`); existing monitors/dashboards must be updated.
- **ldflags version path**: `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner/internal/pkg/ver.version` → `gitea.com/gitea/runner/internal/pkg/ver.version`. Affects anyone building with custom ldflags.
- **Kubernetes example resource names**: `act-runner` / `act-runner-vol` → `runner` / `runner-vol`. Users who copied the manifests verbatim will see resource churn on apply.
- **s6 service name**: `scripts/s6/act_runner/` → `scripts/s6/gitea-runner/` (image-internal; only matters for downstream image overrides).
Unchanged: YAML config field names, env vars (`GITEA_*`), CLI flags/subcommands, registration file format.

Merge gitea/act into act/
Merges the `gitea.com/gitea/act` fork into this repository as the `act/` directory and consumes it as a local package. The `replace github.com/nektos/act => gitea.com/gitea/act` directive is removed; act's dependencies are merged into the root `go.mod`. - Imports rewritten: `github.com/nektos/act/pkg/...` → `gitea.com/gitea/act_runner/act/...` (flattened — `pkg/` boundary dropped to match the layout forgejo-runner adopted). - Dropped act's CLI (`cmd/`, `main.go`) and all upstream project files; kept the library tree + `LICENSE`. - Added `// Copyright <year> The Gitea Authors ...` / `// Copyright <year> nektos` headers to 104 `.go` files. - Pre-existing act lint violations annotated inline with `//nolint:<linter> // pre-existing issue from nektos/act`. `.golangci.yml` is unchanged vs `main`. - Makefile test target: `-race -short` (matches forgejo-runner). - Pre-existing integration test failures fixed: race in parallel executor (atomic counters); TestSetupEnv / command_test / expression_test / run_context_test updated to match gitea fork runtime; TestJobExecutor and TestActionCache gated on `testing.Short()`. Full `gitea/act` commit history is reachable via the second parent. Co-Authored-By: Claude (Opus 4.7) <> |
